“From the point of view of development of the Department of Ecology and Diseases of Game, Fish and Bees, the emergency state of the building in which it resides has been a burning problem at the UVPS Brno, which has limited its development. With the newly reconstructed pavilion, students of the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno will have access to the most state-of-the-art teaching premises, and the academic staff have the perfect facilities for teaching, scientific and clinical activities, as well as for competitiveness on a worldwide level. Thanks to a subsidy from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno now boasts a top-class facility for further development of veterinary medicine in the areas of fish and bee diseases, animal and wildlife diseases, and also ecotoxicology. The newly opened premises will help extend and deepen the current collaboration on research projects in the fields of veterinary medicine and veterinary hygiene and ecology, and further develop joint research activities with other universities, the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) and other institutions,” says the rector of the UVPS Brno, prof. “The advantage of the institute is its research part and the state-of-the-art technological equipment, which it is now equipped with. The Department boasts a range of excellent outputs on an international scale, for example on the currently very topical issues of viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases in fish farming, bee diseases, and amphibian and reptile diseases with the potential to threaten their biodiversity, bat diseases, the physiology of their hibernation, zoonotic ecology, as well as issues of game diseases, predator intoxication, and the ecotoxicological use of invertebrates and plants to ensure the health and safety of food and veterinary commodities and their protection against contamination with foreign substances,” says the Head of the Department prof.
