The applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for three positions of a full time fixed-term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the research group of Biomedical Engineering a part of Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Cybernetics VSB -Technical University of Ostrava.
The successful candidate will carry out research in the field of Telemedicine and eHealth under supervision of prof. Martin Cerny (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8893-2587). These positions require knowledge related to development of sensors for biosignal sensing, embedded systems, new algorithms for advanced signal analysis in the applications of diagnostic and therapeutic telemedicine. Experiences with clinical studies in real-world and/or hospital environments are welcomed.
These positions are funded by project LERCO, (Life Environment Research Center Ostrava, reg. num. CZ.10.03.01/00/22_003/0000003), Research program 9 „Biomedical Engineering“.) financed by the Czech Republic and EU funds.
The position is available from June 2025 with flexibility on start date for 12 months renewable upon favourable evaluation.
Project description
LERCO project connects medical professionals, biomedical engineers and companies through common research topics. Project involves in total 15 postdoc researches and up to 10 Ph.D. students in the field of Biomedical Engineering with different focus groups. The Telemedicine and eHealth focus group identifies three main research directions:
- Contactless vital signs monitoring.
- Technology for monitoring therapy in the home environment - Sensors for smart orthotics and remote-controlled rehabilitation.
- Assistive technology for increasing the quality of life and preventing risky events in the home (hospital) environment.
These research topics are supported by new living laboratory (healthlab.vsb.cz), which allows development and testing in like real-world environment.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Design new technical solutions and perform experiments and analyses relevant to one of specified research direction.
- Collaboration with scientific groups locally, nationally and internationally.
- Publish peer-reviewed articles and present findings at national/international scientific meetings and contribute to intellectual property protection results.
- Cooperation on the development of highly innovative solutions with a direct impact on practice with medical doctors/practitioners and companies.
- The possibility to participate in the teaching in the Biomedical Engineering (Bc., MSc., Ph.D) and Biomedical Assistive Technology (Bc.) study programs, mentoring of master students and co-mentoring of Ph.D. students.
Essential Requirements:
Ph.D. in the field Biomedical Engineering or a related field, preferably focused on telemedicine, wearables, bio-sensors, vital signs monitoring.
AND
Publications in research journals focused on Biomedical Engineering (at least 2 publications in the journals listed in “SCOPUS CiteScore Rank”/ “Web of Science Journal Citation Report” in 1st quartile in the category Biomedical Engineering or a related field).
AND
internship abroad of at least 4 months OR previous experience in a research project of a minimum duration of 1 year at a minimum of 40% working time involvement with a (co-)autorship on the output of the protection of intellectual property ( such as patent or utility model).
AND
Strong written and oral English skills are required (according “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR)” required level B2).
