Postdoc in Nano-Optics and Super-Resolution Microscopy

We invite applications for a fully funded postdoctoral position within the Nano-Optics Group, led by Marek Piliarik, at the Institute of Photonics and Electronics (IPE), Prague, Czech Academy of Sciences. This position is part of the ERC-CZ project, which aims to develop the next generation of label-free super-resolution microscopy.

Our research focuses on cutting-edge single-molecule imaging, optical wavefront shaping, high-speed ultrasensitive microscopy, and interferometric scattering microscopy (iSCAT) addressing key challenges in biology, biophysics, and biochemistry. The project offers flexibility in prioritizing research topics, spanning from theoretical photonics and novel microscope designs to applied biophysics.

Candidates with research experience in microscopy and optics development and an interest in the intersection of physics and biology are encouraged to apply. Applications can be pre-submitted with a CV only, while additional documents — a motivation letter, a full list of publications, and at least two references — are appreciated and can be provided with the official application or upon request.

Applications can be sent directly via email to Mrs. Motlová (Tato e-mailová adresa je chráněna před spamboty. Pro její zobrazení musíte mít povolen Javascript.) with the subject line "UFE-NP51". The deadline for applications is April 13, 2025.

Ideal candidate profile

  • PhD in optics, optical engineering, optoelectronics, applied physics, biophysics or chemistry.
  • Excellent publication record.
  • Research experience and hands-on experimental skills in optics, preferably microscopy, bioimaging, plasmonics, near-field optics or adaptive optics.
  • Keen interest in the interface between physics and biology.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research under the ERC-CZ project, focusing on the development of novel microscopy techniques. Other projects in the group are open for participation upon discussion.
  • Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team, contributing to both technological advancements and biological insights.

About the employer

The Institute of Photonics and Electronics AS CR, v. v. i. (IPE) is a public research institution, one of the research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the largest non-university research organization in the Czech Republic. IPE carries out fundamental and applied research in the scientific fields of photonics, optoelectronics, and electronics.
The Nano Optics group, headed by Marek Piliarik, is advancing the fundamental understanding of light-matter interactions at the nanoscale. Our focus areas include single-molecule label-free detection, interferometric scattering microscopy, ultrasensitive vibrational spectroscopy, and more. The group has a successful record of technology transfer and industrial collaborations, and participates in a range of cross-disciplinary collaborations, including a partnership with the Dresden International Graduate School for Interdisciplinary Life Sciences.
