Non-academic Staff Member - Project Researcher for the Department of Forest Ecology
Research field: forestry, entomology, environmental protection

The Department of Forest Ecology addresses a wide range of ecological topics, including primary and secondary production, ecological stability, and biodiversity in the landscape. We focus on the relationships between organisms and their environment, climate, substances, and human activities. Our institute is primarily research-oriented, as evidenced by our prestigious results, but we are also enthusiastic about teaching and learning. We collaborate on projects with numerous domestic and international partners, with a strong emphasis on practical application.
What will be your job role?
- methodological guidance of work packages 3.1 and 3. 2 in the framework of the Interreg AT-CZ project "SMARTbeetle" (ATCZ00158)
- preparation and coordination of the design of experiments between MENDELU and VULHM
- content management, coordination and management of the activities of the MENDELU team, ensuring their proper and timely execution
- communication with partners from practice in order to divide responsibilities, selection of sites and coordination of fieldwork
- provision and management of staff to ensure smooth running of field and laboratory work, publication and dissemination of project outputs
- control and guarantee of deadlines and quality of final texts
What are our requirements?
- university degree at least at Ph.D. level in forest conservation, applied entomology
- perfect knowledge of the Czech language at the level of a native speaker
- excellent knowledge of English language at the level of at least C1
- we require proven experience of at least 15 years in:
- leading a team of scientists in field and laboratory work
- research experience (specified below)
- experience of working in an international team
- preparation of monitoring reports
- professional focus on the protection of forest stands against bark beetles (proven by publications in professional and scientific journals and successfully implemented projects)
- willingness to travel to project meetings in the Czech Republic and Austria (required)
- willingness to work in the field (required)
Required research experience:
- collection, evaluation and interpretation of scientific data
- preparation and supervision of publications (final reports, articles in professional and scientific journals)
- presentation of results at national and international level
- preparation, management and defence of science and research projects
What else do we appreciate?
- German at communication level (an advantage, not a requirement)
- Group B driving licence
- orientation in forestry operations
- experience in management positions and functions in academia
- experience with national projects - e.g. GAČR, NAZV, TAČR
- membership in editorial boards of professional scientific journals

Job status: 0,125 (5 hours per week)
Expected start: June 2025
Employment contract: for the duration of the project (from 1. 6. 2025 to 30. 6. 2028)
